June 1, 2026 | Operations

Why Start a Nursing College?

Pakistan faces a critical shortage of qualified nurses. With 450+ nursing colleges operating and growing demand from international markets, starting a nursing college is both a social mission and a profitable business. Nursing colleges earn revenue through student fees while creating employment and improving healthcare capacity.

Step 1: Regulatory Approval (Months 1-3)

Get PNC Recognition: Contact Pakistan Nursing Council for preliminary guidelines. They require a detailed proposal including curriculum, faculty plan, and infrastructure details. Processing takes 4-8 weeks.

Check Provincial Requirements: Each province has additional education board approvals. In Punjab, contact Punjab Nursing & Midwifery Board (PNMB).

Step 2: Infrastructure Setup (Months 2-4)

  • Secure a facility: 10,000-15,000 sq ft minimum for 100+ students
  • Build classrooms, labs, library, administrative offices
  • Install equipment: anatomy models, nursing simulation labs, computers
  • Secure clinical placement agreements with 2-3 tertiary hospitals

Step 3: Faculty Recruitment (Months 3-5)

  • Principal: MSN/MNSc with 5+ years experience
  • Assistant Principal: BSN with 3+ years teaching experience
  • Clinical Instructors: BSN with hospital experience
  • Support Staff: Administrative officers, lab technicians

Step 4: Curriculum & Course Design (Month 4)

Adopt PNC-approved curriculum (typically 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing). Create detailed semester plans, learning outcomes, and assessment methods.

Step 5: Student Admission (Months 5-6)

  • Advertise in newspapers, online, and at schools
  • Entry requirement: FSc (Pre-Medical) or equivalent
  • Conduct entrance test or merit-based selection
  • Enroll 30-50 students in first batch
